Google Chrome OS Key Aspects

The Google Chrome OS team is focusing on three key areas:

  • Speed
  • Simplicity
  • Security

Each of these three areas are common complaints related to Microsoft Operating Systems; especially Vista. The design of Google Chrome OS is focusing on being fast and lightweight, allowing the end user to be up and running within seconds of launch.

If Google Chrome OS operates as the initial Google announcement promises, we may be in for an entirely new computing experience. From reading the announcement, I gather that most of the computing will occur in the ‘cloud’ – taking place on the Internet from within the Google Chrome browswer, which will presumably be integrated heavily into the operating system.

The announcement states that users won’t have to ‘deal with viruses, malware and security updates.’ This is getting my hopes up.

Google Chrome OS will initially run on Netbooks and they plan to work actively with several OEMs to bring Chrome OS equipped netbooks to market by the second half of 2010. Perhaps by this time next year we’ll have a new OS to choose – one that is free and works. Wow.
